Marking European Day Without a Road Death in Crete

For a second consecutive year, Make Roads Safe Hellas has marked TIPSOL’s European Day Without a Road Death (Project EDWARD) in Chania, Crete.

In partnership with the Municipality of Chania, Make Roads Safe Hellas have been visiting local schools to teach children and young people about safe road behaviour as pedestrians and vehicle passengers.

This is important today more than ever, following one of Crete’s worst summers in terms of road deaths in last decade – with 41 deaths being recorded since the beginning of the year.

Using the EASST Road Safety Education Pack, Make Roads Safe Hellas has spent the week visiting a number of schools in the city along with representatives from the Chania Municipality, Global NCAP’s David Ward and Director of the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, Lotte Brondum. Giving children the opportunity to learn basic road safety rules, chat about their daily road safety habits and participate at the interactive games, and passing on the message that it’s never too early to learn about road safety!
