Sixth Global Meeting of NGOs Advocating for Road Safety and Road Victims April 2019
The Sixth Global Meeting of Nongovernmental Organizations for Road Safety will be held in Chania from 8th - 13th April 2019. The event will bring together over 200 representatives of road safety NGOs from around the world. which is co-organised with Make Roads Safe Hellas.
In 2020 the current United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety will end and will be reviewed at a High Level Global Ministerial Conference to be hosted by the Government of Sweden in March 2020. The UN General Assembly will also debate the outcome of the Decade in a special session likely to be held in April 2020. The European Union in the first half of 2019 is also expected to adopt a new road safety strategy to halve road deaths and serious by 2030 and approve a significant upgrade to mandatory vehicle safety standards.
The Global Meeting of NGOs will be adopting recommendations on these important road safety initiatives in a ‘Chania Declaration’ on behalf of the NGO community.
Make Roads Safe Hellas will also be publishing their Tourism Road Safety Study Report and develop policy and industry-wide recommendations towards improving road safety in Greece.
